Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (released in the United States and India as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) is a 2001 British-American fantasy film directed by Chris Columbus and based on the 1997 novel of the same name by J.K Rowling. The film was produced by Heyday Films, 1492 Pictures, and Duncan Henderson Productions and distributed by Warner Bros.. Released on November 16, 2001, it was followed by seven sequels; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on November 15, 2002, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on June 4, 2004, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on November 18, 2005, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on July 11, 2007, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on July 15, 2009, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 on November 19, 2010, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 on July 15, 2011.
