Maggie is the only cow left on the Dixon Ranch after a cattle rustler named Alameda Slim stole the rest of the cattle. Mr. Dixon sells Maggie to Pearl, an elderly woman who runs a dairy farm called the Patch of Heaven. After the farm animals learn that the farm will be sold if Pearl cannot pay the bank, Maggie, along with Mrs. Calloway and Grace, set off to town to win the prize money at the fair.
At the town, bounty hunter Rico collects the reward money, and borrows the Sheriff's horse Buck while he sets off to capture Slim. The cows, learning that the reward money is the exact same amount that Pearl owes the bank, decide to capture Slim themselves and collect the reward. While hiding amongst a herd of steers, the cows are put into a trance by Slim's yodeling song. As the entranced herd follows Slim, Grace manages to snap Maggie and Calloway out of their trance just as Slim encloses the path with a rockslide. While Rico and his men discuss their next course of action, Buck begins to talk to the cows. Rico, believing that Buck is scared of cows, sends him back to the Sheriff, but he escapes, hoping to capture Slim and prove his worth.
Led by a rabbit named Lucky Jack, the cows enter Slim's hideout mine. At the mine, Slim reveals he has been stealing cattle from his former patrons and buys their land when they can no longer support it. The cows capture Slim, but Rico arrives and reveals that he is working for Slim. While Slim heads off disguised as a bidder, the cows, aided by Buck and Lucky Jack, defeat Rico and his men before arriving at the farm in the train. They expose Slim, who attempts to use his yodeling to entrance the cows. However, Grace stops him, and Slim is arrested by the authorities. After collecting the reward money, the cows save the Patch of Heaven.
